Juggling Marakesh
Valentina Loi was born in Milan and grew up in Paris and New York. She did her Masters at New York University and received two educational grants and an award for art and technology. Her first solo show was organized at Artopia gallery in Milan in 2003; a catalogue was published in conjunction with the exhibition. Loi participated in “Painting as Paradox” at Artists Space New York curated by Lauri Firstenberg in 2002 and “ASSAB One” 2004 curated by Roberto Pinto, “Nurture Art” curated by Stefanie Jeanjean in Brooklyn New York 2006. She has won various grants such as the “Moving’Up GAI” grant in Italy in 2005, and was awarded the “Roger Dubuis Foundation Prize of Contemporary Art” in Geneva in 2004. For two years she took part in the Centre International de Récollets residency in Paris in merit to the patronage of the Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art. Reviews of her work have been published in magazines such as NY Arts Magazine and Flash Art and in newspapers such as La Reppublica. Valentina Loi completed a residency in Paris through the Cité Universitaire with the help of the DRAC and the French ministry of culture in 2008. And is now working on several projects privately in Paris.
