Valentina Loi was born in Milan and grew up in Paris and New York. She did her Masters at New York University and received two educational grants and an award for art and technology. Her first solo show was organized at Artopia gallery in Milan in 2003; a catalogue was published in conjunction with the exhibition. Loi participated in “Painting as Paradox” at Artists Space New York curated by Lauri Firstenberg in 2002 and “ASSAB One” 2004 curated by Roberto Pinto, “Nurture Art” curated by Stefanie Jeanjean in Brooklyn New York 2006. Her latest solo exhibition was held at Dissident Display Gallery in Washington D.C.
She has won various grants such as the “Moving’Up GAI” grant in Italy in 2005, and was awarded the “Roger Dubuis Foundation Prize of Contemporary Art” in Geneva in 2004. For two years she took part in the Centre International de Récollets residency in Paris in merit to the patronage of the Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art. Reviews of her work have been published in magazines such as NY Arts Magazine and Flash Art and in newspapers such as La Reppublica. Valentina Loi recently completed a residency in Paris through the Cité Universitaire with the help of the DRAC and the French ministry of culture. And is now working on several projects privately in Paris.

Après une licence en
histoire de l’art mes recherches artistiques sur l’intégration de la peinture,
la vidéo et la photo me conduisirent à l'obtention de deux bourses
universitaires afin de poursuivre une maîtrise en arts plastiques à New York
University. Ces travaux donnèrent lieux à des expositions collectives, dans des
galeries et des centres culturels. Notamment à Artists Space, dans une
exposition intitulée Painting as Paradox, proposé par Lauri Firstenberg à
New York. En 2002, avec la volonté de poursuivre mon travail en Europe d’autres
expositions telle que Manifesta à Francfort me permettent de présenter mes
recherches. C'est à Milan, en 2003, que la galerie Artopia monte une première
exposition personnelle intitulé Painting versus Video. En 2005 La Dena Foundation
pour l'Art Contemporain m’a attribué une résidence au Centre International des
Récollets à Paris, pour une période de deux ans. Ensuite, en 2007 grâce au
partenariat du Ministère de la Culture et de la Communication et la Cité
Culture j’ai bénéficié d’un atelier-logement au sein de la Cité Universitaire
de Paris. Des articles sur mon travail ont été également publiés dans plusieurs
magazines dédiés à l’art contemporain notamment Flash Art et Tema Celeste.
