Valentina Loi was born in Milan and grew up in Paris and New York. She did her Masters at New York University and received two educational grants and an award for art and technology. Her first solo show was organized at Artopia gallery in Milan in 2003; a catalogue was published in conjunction with the exhibition. Loi participated in “Painting as Paradox” at Artists Space New York curated by Lauri Firstenberg in 2002 and “ASSAB One” 2004 curated by Roberto Pinto, “Nurture Art” curated by Stefanie Jeanjean in Brooklyn New York 2006. Her latest solo exhibition was held at Dissident Display Gallery in Washington D.C.
She has won various grants such as the “Moving’Up GAI” grant in Italy in 2005, and was awarded the “Roger Dubuis Foundation Prize of Contemporary Art” in Geneva in 2004. For two years she took part in the Centre International de Récollets residency in Paris in merit to the patronage of the Dena Foundation for Contemporary Art. Reviews of her work have been published in magazines such as NY Arts Magazine and Flash Art and in newspapers such as La Reppublica. Valentina Loi recently completed a residency in Paris through the Cité Universitaire with the help of the DRAC and the French ministry of culture. And is now working on several projects privately in Paris.

| Mon travail consiste à utiliser différents moyens d’expression pour produire une œuvre, et un concept. La recherche principale du travail se base sur le thème du jeu. En rejouant aux différents jeux auquel jouent les enfants, j’introduis leurs gestes physiques dans un contexte d’adulte. Entre bras de fer, auto-tamponneuses, football, saut à la corde, etc., ces performances, photographies, vidéos, dessins et peintures cherchent à recréer un moment intangible. C’est ce moment d’intangibilité qui est la base de ma recherche artistique. Un jeu peut être joué n’importe ou dans n’importe quel espace, pays, ou lieu. À travers tout ces outilles du domaine de l’art, je suis intéressé par la liaison entre le fait de détacher et d’enlever le travail artistique de l’atelier, avant de revenir dans l’atelier pour recréer cet instant intangible utilisant des «outilles» et «supports» qui sont liés au domaine de l’art et à l’espace de l’atelier. |
